I am what you would call an “over-packer.” I always wants to make sure I have everything I could possibly need in any situation. The more I’ve travelled, the better I like to think I am at only bringing what is necessary, or finding dual purposes for certain items. For my latest road trip adventure, I decided to share my must-haves for personal care when escaping for a few days. I love my skin care regimen, but don’t want to slip up just because I am away for a few days. I have found products that work best for me and perhaps they will for you also! Everything fits nicely in my travel kit and comes along with me wherever I go, no matter the length or distance.
Here’s a look into my toiletry bag. Would love to hear what products you all use! I’m always open to trying new brands.
So I have recently gotten hooked to castile soaps, especially when travelling because they are mega multi-purpose. You can wash your face and body with these mild, natural cleansers. I have been using Toronto-based, Sade Baron, which is naturally scented with essential oil. It works for my skin and I find it doesn’t strip my skin of all the natural oils, which a lot of foaming skin cleansers do.
I cannot miss the opportunity to exfoliate every couple days. I love how soft my skin feels after I use a gentle exfoliant. It gets rid of dead skin cells and gently massages to promote skin cell rejuvenation. I admit I only just started taking this step in my skincare routine seriously but I have noticed a big difference in how my skin looks and feels. It is more radiant and moisturized (your skin cream won’t do any good if you don’t exfoliate the layer of dead cells off because it won’t be able to absorb properly). I have been using Green Beaver‘s Sensitive Aloe Exfoliant, it is super mild and gentle. I find some to be a little harsh and can cause breakouts after use. The bottle is perfect size for travelling.
I am totally hooked on oils. I used to believe that oils would lead to more breakouts, but in fact we breakout when our pores trap in dirt due to dryness, leading to blemishes. Once I learned this, I became obsessive with using natural oils versus synthetic creams. A few years ago I discovered seabuckthorn oil, which is great for problematic skin (which I had for a bit), and reduces redness and other skin pigmentation issues. Seabuckthorn is so great for skin health, because it is packed with so many nutrients, including vitamin A, B1/2, C, D, K, and antioxidants. It promotes cellular rejuvenation and works as a natural sunblock (also great for sunburns). I love the brand, Sibu Beauty.
Just as important as it is to moisturize your face, it is so important to pay extra attention to the delicate skin around your eyes. I find that my eyes are the first telltale sign that I am tired, which is happening more frequently, and I don’t want to end up looking far older than I am because I neglected this sensitive area. I like a serum versus cream, which is kind of the same as my facial moisturizer. I use in the morning and sometimes at night also. I love NTRL Joe‘s Camu Camu serum because it reduces puffiness and packs vitamin c and antioxidants for anti-aging benefits.
I can never leave for a few days without a body lotion. I like to keep it natural, and when on the road it doesn’t make sense to bring a tub of coconut oil (plus I have tried this and when it melts the risk of leaking is high). Anyway, I like Sade Baron‘s body cream because it’s a bit thicker and I feel like it really moisturizes my skin. It’s also a small little container that packs easily for trips.
Always going for the natural option when possible. I opt for Green Beaver‘s Tea Tree Oil natural deodorant because I love the fresh scent.. Sometimes when I need something more heavy duty, I use 100% tea tree oil under my arms to kill of bacteria and also balance the odor. It really does work and is nice and tingly!
I try to avoid using perfume as much as possible, not that I don’t love smelling good, but because many people are sensitive to the scent and there are, unfortunately, lots of chemicals in them. I love using essential oils like lavender or patchouli (lots of people hate this though!) or body mists that leave you feeling refreshed and smelling nice. I love the Autumn scent from Sade Baron, which uses grapefruit, cedar wood, and witch hazel. It smells great and is good for you.
I am such a huge advocate for protecting our skin with sunblock, whether sunbathing or simply walking around. Skin damage is a real thing, and the risks are high. I know that having a healthy glow is so desired, especially after the grey winter months, but being skin smart is sexy. I have been transitioning to the natural brands and have been using Green Beaver. This is a definitely must-have wherever you are!
