Tucked away on Augusta Ave, in Kensington Market is Hibiscus Cafe, a quaint little place that offers wonderful vegetarian and vegan cuisine and it’s all 100% gluten-free! My amazing blogger friend, Gillian, tagged along for the adventure so we could share a couple things. It was a FREEZING cold day, so we started off with their ginger butternut squash soup to warm up. The aromatic ginger with the hearty squash made for a lovely combination.
They offer a soup + salad combo, so we went for that. The salad consists of quinoa, tofu, lentils, greens, dried cranberries, steamed broccoli, roasted sweet potato, shredded beets and carrots (I’m definitely missing a couple ingredients), tossed with a tasty vinaigrette. So much goodness packed into one bowl!
For our next course, we ordered a vegan buckwheat crepe stuffed with spinach, vegan mozzarella, tomato, basil, portobello mushrooms and pesto. I haven’t enjoyed crepes in a long time, so this was such a delightful treat. They also offer a bevy of sweet crepes too, if you’re looking for a bit of indulgence.
I was nearly bursting at the seams, but couldn’t resist a sample of the vegan ice cream on display. They also offer a selection of cookies, brownies and squares. Despite it being a cold day it was the perfect end to a savoury meal. I tried the pistachio and the vanilla coconut- so yum! This would be the perfect summer treat, paired with their gluten-free cones. Will have to make note to return again in warmer temps!
Hibiscus Cafe is located at 238 Augusta Ave.
