I am really excited about this one because I feel like the city is really evolving into a more conscious, and collectively, healthier, place to live. I remember when I first started my blog five years ago, it was challenging to find gluten-free options, and if you were GF you knew those places well. Now, we have so many more options, it’s hard to keep up. Now the next biggest trends are paleo-friendly restaurants in Toronto. While we all know I am devoted to a gluten-free diet, I have removed certain grains from my diet so I like eating paleo or grain-free because I do feel better overall. So in honour of those embarking on a new diet for the new year, and in lieu of my preferred diet these days, here is a round-up of my top picks for paleo-friendly spots in Toronto.
The OG of paleo-friendly restaurants in Toronto, and it’s only a few years old. But the popularity of this performance-based eatery is wide-spread allowing them to open up a second location. Everything on site is gluten-free, paleo-friendly and really nourishing. They offer power breakfasts, elixirs, bone broth, juices, and mega bowls, to name a few.
Best Dish: Warrior Bowl
Somewhat of a new kid on the block, but amongst the wellness & paleolithic / ketogenic market, they are a hotspot. Offering epic breakfast, lunch and dinner items, they are making a lot of allergic or intolerant people happy. With the sweetest duo behind the concept, you’ll feel right at home. Oh, and cannot forget to mention the epic market with all of your favourite US brands (i.e. Siete, Simple Mills, RX Bars. Barely Bread, KZ’s Clean Eating, etc).
Best Dish: Simple Waffles
We all know my fondness of Kupfert & Kim, but if you’re following a paleo diet, they have a couple items for you. They’re good at modifying also if you’re avoiding certain grains, etc. With several locations across the downtown core, you can grab a hearty meatless, wheatless dish for a quick lunch or dinner.
Best Dish: K & K Paleo
A healthy quick-serve restaurant that is dedicated to local and seasonal ingredients. They are super accommodating to all sorts of dietary restrictions, but most recently have begun to offer a paleo bun option for their burgers and sandwiches. They also offer several bowls and salads that would be paleo-approved.
Best Dish: El Guapo Burger
While this isn’t a restaurant, this is the first grain-free/paleo-friendly bakery in North America. The ladies behind this fabulous place are making some of the best baked goods ever. Free of refined sugar, grains and many paleo and keto options. They also offer a small market of our favourite US brands (Siete and Simple Mills).
Best Dish: pizza rolls, carnival donuts
While I am not sure that you can coin their burgers paleo-friendly, I guess it depends on how strict you are following the diet, but they now offer a paleo-keto bun that is unreal. Super fluffy, super fresh and adding the best support for the tastiest burgers.
Best Dish: Holy Chuck Burger
